This piece was the first of a new series continuing with Abstract Nature. Although I am still keeping within the reference of painting, this piece takes on more sculptural properties, and begins to escape from the wall. The biggest part of this work is that it plays with the idea of kinetics and illusion.  Although this piece functions well as a visual piece, with closer investigation the viewer is rewarded with the discovery of movement, sound and surface change. This piece changes shape over a 16 hour cycle, while the mechanics within the piece produces a soft pulsing sound much like that of a heart beat. With closer observation the viewer also discovers that the painted surface reacts with different lighting situations.
